Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Jia earned his Master's in Medicinal Chemistry in 2018 from Tianjin University of Science and Technology, working under the guidance of Prof. Yu Peng. His master’s research concentrated on the synthesis and characterization of glycol-nanoparticles, serving as probes to explore carbohydrate-protein interactions. Subsequently, he pursued his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Georgia State University, completing his studies in 2023 under the mentorship of Dr. Suri Iyer. Joining the Chemistry department and the Center for Diagnostics & Therapeutics as a Graduate student in 2018, under Dr. Suri Iyer's direction, Dr. Jia developed assays for potential use in Point of Care (POC) diagnostics. Currently, Dr. Jia is serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.
A chemist by training, Dr. Jia's research spans the extensive realm of glycoscience with a primary focus on assay development for POC diagnostics. His expertise includes synthesizing and characterizing monosaccharides as probes for investigating carbohydrate-protein interactions and creating glycan biosensors. Additionally, Dr. Jia possesses substantial experience in the synthesis and characterization of fluorescent probes, fluorescent nanoparticles, and mesoporous silica nanoparticles, crucial components in the development of POC diagnostic assays. His current endeavors concentrate on novel chemistries to functionalize glycans, aiming for diverse applications such as glycan microarrays and Luminex, with the ultimate goal of unraveling biomedically significant protein-glycan interactions.
