Hands-on Training Sessions March 2019

Glycomics

Focused on protocol and experimental details, these hands-on training sessions will put to practice some of the key protocols and technologies developed or routinely used at the NCFG.

The goal of these training modules is to experience first-hand the execution of various protocols used in Glycomics analysis. Right at the bench and using real samples, participants will practice and learn all of the technical details required for optimal sample processing and to ensure the highest quality of data.

These training sessions are tailored for small groups up to four participants. On a first-come first-serve basis*, they are open to any academic or corporate investigators. Prospective participants needs to fill out the training form, send it back fully completed along with a Purchase Order (used to cover a portion of the training fees). Although parts of the sessions are overlapping, participants are welcome to attend any or all of the proposed training sessions.

*Additional hands-on training session dates could be added according to the demand.

Hands-on training sessions available in March (18th - 28th):

The number of participants per session is limited to four (4).

Mass Spectrometry glycan profiling and analysis:

Session 1 –   N-glycan profiling of purified glyoproteins/cells/tissue samples by MALDI-TOF
Session 2 –   N-glycan profiling of in-gel glycoprotein samples by MALDI-TOF
Session 3 –   N-glycan profiling of serum/plasma samples by MALDI-TOF
Session 4 –   O-glycan profiling of any samples by MALDI-TOF

Time and location:

All training sessions will take place in our NCFG facility at:
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center:
330 Brookline Avenue, Room SL-0417
Boston, MA USA

The Mass Spectrometry trainings will take place from March, 18 2019 through March, 28 2019, as follow:

Session 1 (3 days): Monday 18th – Wednesday 20th
Session 2 (2 days): Thursday 21st – Friday 22nd
Session 3 (2 days): Monday 25th – Tuesday 26th
Session 4 (2 days): Wednesday 27th – Thursday 28th

Training will start at 8:30am and end at 5pm.

Session content:

For all sessions, participants will be handed a training booklet containing background information, condensed and detailed experimental protocols, additional explanation and a troubleshooting section.

All materials, reagents and protective equipment (lab coat, gloves, goggles, etc…) will be provided for the training. As the real processing time for these samples usually spans over many days to a couple weeks, several steps of the protocols will be shortened or sped up for the training purposes. Nonetheless, all handling and technical aspects of the protocols will be demonstrated and reviewed.

Session 1 – 3 days:
Following our protocol, this training will be covering the preparation, purification, and analysis of N-glycans that are PNGase F-released from purified proteins, cells and tissue samples using a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.

Session 2 – 2 days:
Following our protocol, this training will be covering the preparation, purification, and analysis of N-glycans that are PNGase F-released from glycoprotein samples previously run through an SDS-page gel and using a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.

Session 3 – 2 days:
Following our protocol, this training will be covering the preparation, purification and analysis of N-glycans that are PNGase F-released from plasma or serum samples using a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.

Session 4 – 2 days:
Following our protocol, this training will be covering the preparation, purification and analysis of O-glycans released by β-elimination using a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.

Register for the training:

1- Complete the Hands-on Training Request form and email it to us (email id is on the form). In return, a quote will be made for your institution in order to issue a Purchase Order (PO).

2- In the meantime, please complete the 3 forms and send them back to us as soon as possible to complete your registration. These form are required in order to be able to perform the training inside the BIDMC laboratories.
-
Attestation of Outside Employment Form
- Collaborator Request Form
- Universal Clearance Form (several immunizations are mendatory to work at BIDMC)

3- Finally, upon reception of your PO AND the forms properly completed, your spot will be secured.

Please Contact Us if you have any questions.

* Please note that a specific hands-on training session will be cancelled if less than two (2) participants have enrolled for that session. Notification of cancellation will be sent 1 week prior to the session date. No charge will be applied in this event.
