Pain Medicine Fellowship

Overview and Goals

Welcome to the Pain Medicine Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Our program offers an immersive experience to give trainees the skills, mentorship and academic foundation needed to thrive as pain physicians. Our fellows train within a uniquely collaborative ecosystem involving faculty from anesthesiology, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychology and emergency medicine that ensures that graduates leave not only as technically skilled interventionalists, but as physicians who understand the full landscape of chronic pain. We provide a high-volume interventional exposure paired with longitudinal patient management, a structured didactic curriculum along with time for research and academic growth, and a culture that values mentorship as much as clinical excellence. As one of the longest running programs in the country, we have a proud legacy of graduates who have become pioneers across academia, innovation, and private practice nationwide.

We invite you to explore our fellowship and discover how BIDMC’s tradition of excellence and innovation in pain medicine can help support your growth as a clinician, educator, and leader in pain medicine.

Through the course of their training, our fellows:

  1. Develop an in depth understanding of basic science concepts, clinical skills, evidence- based medicine, and emerging research within the field of pain medicine.
  2. Learn interventional techniques and advanced surgical skills used in the treatment of Pain Disorders.
  3. Develop the skills needed to implement care across multiple determinants of patient health and welfare.
  4. Work with stakeholders in our community to provide a multidisciplinary approach to care for patients in a variety of clinical settings, and vulnerable patient populations (including LGBTQ and non-native English Speakers).
