Residency Eligibility

Qualifications for participation in the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program are in accordance with criteria set forth by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

  • Graduate of an ASHP Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy training degree program
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
  • Residents must be licensed or eligible for licensure (reciprocity or examination)at the start of the residency, then fully licensed in Massachusetts within 90 days from the start of the residency.
  • Residents must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Work authorization sponsorship for this position is unavailable
  • Residents shall participate in and obey the rules of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program

While attendance at the ASHP Midyear Meeting provides a direct opportunity to meet and discuss our program, we recognize that not everyone is able to attend. Selections for interviews will be based on our review of the submitted applications through PHORCAS.

Application Deadline

Your application and all supporting documentation must be received by January 2nd, 2026.

Application Materials

Application templates are available electronically using the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application (PhORCAS). All applicants must provide the following:

  1. Letter of Interest, including a statement of professional goals and reasons for pursuing a PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Three Letters of Recommendation
  4. Official Pharmacy School Transcript

Submission of Application Materials

Applications to the BIDMC PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency program are to be submitted electronically using the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application (PhORCAS).

Personal Interview

Completed applications are reviewed by members of the Residency Advisory Committee to determine candidates that most closely match the BIDMC program goals and opportunities with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Your letter of intent, CV, PGY1 rotations and letters of recommendation weigh highly in the review process. We also consider work experience, career goals, leadership activities, teaching experience and involvement in professional activities as important factors in our selection process.

Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for a personal virtual interview with the program director and selected faculty. An interview can be arranged only when your application file is complete. The interview process entails a full day (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) of meetings with the Residency Director, clinical preceptors, administrative staff and the current residents. Each applicant will be asked to present a 15 minute clinical case during the interview day. 

  1. Completed application packets will be reviewed by select members of the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) to determine candidates that most closely match the BIDMC program goals and opportunities.
  2. Selected candidates will be invited to an onsite interview with members of the Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Practice Council, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Medical Director and Attendings, as well as Pharmacy Management. The interview will include a short (15-minute) patient vignette presentation to the group.
  3. Following the interview process, residency candidates will be ranked based on the collaborative input regarding the interviews and qualifications of the candidate.
  4. A rank list will be submitted to the Resident Matching Program.

Acknowledgement of Residency Match

Residents matched to the BIDMC Residency program will receive an acceptance letter acknowledging the match and delineating the general terms and conditions of the residency. Acknowledgment in writing by the resident will constitute acceptance of the match and agreement to fulfill the duties of the residency position for the upcoming year.

Pharmacy Licensure Verification

Participation in the BIDMC PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program is contingent on securing and maintaining a license without restriction in the State of Massachusetts. It is the expectation that the resident will complete these licensure requirements within 90 days of the commencement of the program.

The resident will provide the Residency Program Director confirmation that:

  • He/she has already taken or is scheduled to take the NAPLEX and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE), or
  • He/she will take the MPJE upon successful transfer of NAPLEX scores from another state, or
  • He/she has already has a valid MA pharmacy license.
  • Upon notification of successful completion of the NAPLEX and/or MPJE the resident will provide documentation of licensure to the Residency Program Director.
  • Failure to attain licensure is grounds for dismissal from the residency program. Residents should contact the Residency Program Director should any issue arise with licensure.
