Over 500 people attended the 2022 BIDMC Research Retreat held on September 8, 2022, at Temple Israel Boston. Pete Healy, president of BIMDC, offered welcoming remarks and reiterated BIDMC leadership support for research and the InSPIRE plan. For those who could not attend, please find the detailed program of the retreat, the list of posters, a photo album of the event, and a video of the plenary sessions here.
Harvard Medical School Dean George Daley, MD, Ph.D. opened the day with his vision for medical education and a presentation of his inspiring science. Attendees heard about the impressive research efforts of five new BIDMC faculty members. Attendees enjoyed plenary sessions highlighting new discoveries and the development of novel therapeutics by Pathogens, Immunity, and Inflammation, and Systemic Effects of Metabolic Disease Translational Research Hubs members. Presentations from the BIDMC Research and Therapeutic Cores underscored their advanced technological capabilities, and attendees were invited to participate in a core services raffle.
Five poster presenters selected from all poster submissions were awarded an opportunity to give a short talk and won a cash prize (see below). Gyongyi Szabo, MD, PhD, CAO, provided an overview of the InSPIRE plan and highlighted the work of her lab as an example of how the research strategic plan is designed to empower research at BIDMC. The scientific program ended with the launch of the Neuroscience Translational Research Hub and a lively “Pitch It” Competition sponsored by the Technology Ventures Office.
