The Research Student Best Practices Committee at BIDMC aims to provide a collaborative forum for discussing and improving the support infrastructure for research students. This committee is designed to bring together various stakeholders within BIDMC and the broader BILH system, with a focus on enhancing the experience and mentorship of research students across different levels of education.
Key Goals:
- Collaboration on Support Structures: Bringing together individuals from different departments and administrative levels to share ideas and best practices for the recruitment, management, and support of research students.
- Infrastructure Development: Working with OSEE (Office of Student Education and Engagement) to develop and oversee systems that facilitate the growth and success of research students at BIDMC.
- Best Practices Promotion: Promoting strategies for effectively mentoring and overseeing research students across various academic stages (high school, undergraduate, graduate, and medical students).
Focus Areas:
- Best Practices for Supporting Research Students: Engaging in discussions about the infrastructure needed to support students at various educational levels, ensuring consistency and quality in student experiences.
- Infrastructure Reviews and Improvements: Evaluating and improving existing systems and programs designed to support research students, with an eye on continuous enhancement.
- Event and Initiative Ideation: Designing and providing feedback on events and programs that directly support research students, centralizing efforts for their benefit.
- Document and Infrastructure Development: Creating resources and guidelines to assist colleagues in hosting and mentoring research students, ensuring that faculty and staff have the tools they need.
Committee Members:
- Principal Investigators: Experienced mentors who have a strong history of supporting and mentoring research students.
- Research Administration and Compliance Representatives: Key administrative staff who manage research programs and compliance regulations.
- Student Program Managers: Individuals responsible for overseeing student programs and initiatives at BIDMC.
- Research Students: Active research students who can provide insight into the challenges and needs of their peers.
The committee’s collaborative efforts aim to enhance research student experiences, providing them with better opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and success in their respective academic fields.
