The Office of Student Engagement and Experience (OSEE) has developed new initiatives to connect qualified students with research opportunities across BILH. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for BILH researchers and staff to recruit, onboard, and support students by creating streamlined approaches, processes, and infrastructure.
We’re excited to share the following resources designed to support your efforts and to continue building OSEE as a central hub for research student engagement:
1. Research Student Interest Database
This interactive database collects information on students interested in conducting research at a BIL medical center or hospital, including their areas of interest, academic level, and CVs. Additionally, the database is:
- Available to all BILH employees
- Includes search functionality by interest area and academic level
We encourage you to opt in, review student profiles, and reach out to students that you’d like to connect with.
Learn more about how to opt in and use the database here: Opting into and using the BILH Research Student Interest Database | Student Experience
2. BILH Research Student & Postdoc Program and Partnership Database
The OSEE is collecting information on all programs and partnerships to gain a comprehensive view of initiatives at the system level, while simultaneously identifying requested support and resource needs for providing centralized assistance.
- If you work with an external program that recruits and places research students or postdocs, or manage an internal program, please submit this information to the database using the following link: https://redcap-edc.bidmc.harvard.edu/edata/surveys/?s=7WECWCJXRJJCYMJL
- Researchers managing internal didactic programs can use this database to request OSEE support for promoting the program to students on the new OSEE Research Opportunities Webpage.
- You can also submit any available research projects for students to be featured on the webpage by selecting “share an available research project opportunity to promote to students or programs” in the database
3. Current Research Student and Postdoc Partner Supported Programs | Student Experience (in-progress)
Interested in learning more about the research student and postdoc placement programs that the OSEE is supporting? These programs are designed to connect cohorts of research students and postdocs with possible mentors.
The OSEE has developed a page to showcase current, centrally managed partnerships and programs: Current Research Student and Postdoc Partner Programs | Student Experience
This page includes information on the program, academic level of participants, program description, and recruitment period. Please don't hesitate to reach out to program partners that interest you. We ask that you include the osee@bilh.org in your outreach for our records.
The OSEE does support onboarding operations for students and postdocs hired via programs on this list. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Ethan Selinger, Program Director for the OSEE, at eselinge@bidmc.harvard.edu with questions.
4. BIDMC Shapiro Scholars Program
OSEE manages this program for HMS summer research students, offering eight weeks of full-time, sponsored research. In partnership with the Shapiro Institute for Education, OSEE oversees program operations and supports administrative needs for participating researchers.
- Learn more about the program here: Information for Departments and Research Labs | Student Experience
- Submit a project using this intake form: BIDMC Shapiro Scholars Program: Mentor Intake Form (Summer 2026) – Fill out form
5 . Research Student and Postdoc Administration Page
OSEE maintains a webpage with all processes and materials for managing research student and postdoctoral fellow positions at BIDMC.
Access the page here: BILH Research Student and Postdoctoral Research Fellow Administration | Student Experience and please bookmark for future reference.
