Visiting Rotatorships

Endocrinology Rotatorships

Residents in good standing with their current institution can participate in endocrinology rotatorships. The rotator will generally spend half of the rotation period with the fellow and attending on the Diabetes Inpatient Consultation Service and the other half of the rotation assigned to the Inpatient Endocrinology Consultation Service. In addition to the inpatient consultation experience, the rotator will have the opportunity to attend up to four outpatient sessions weekly throughout the rotation, including a half-day personal primary care continuity clinic, half-day Thyroid Nodule Clinic (Thursday morning from the end of Endocrine Consult rounds until noon, when assigned to Endocrinology consult service) and two half-day Diabetes Outpatient Sessions arranged through the Joslin Diabetes Center.  

What is required to do an elective (aka Rotatorship) in this program?

  • In order to offer the best teaching experience and medical education, we limit the number of internal/visiting residents and interns to two at any given time. Please check with the Administrative Coordinator about open dates.
  • Rotatorships in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis and there are only a few per academic year. To get on the waiting list, please email Roxanne Erekson, Fellowship Program Coordinator, with the following information:
    • Your PGY level;
    • Specific dates of availability; and
    • Your CV.

If the schedules coincide, the rotator will have to submit the following documents at least 30 days in advance of the rotation:

  • A copy of the Massachusetts License (Limited or Full);
  • A current CV;
  • A copy of the malpractice insurance factsheet;
  • Employee health screening results;
  • A signed CORI application; and
  • An affiliation agreement form (from the visitor's home institution), which includes statements of:
    • Good standing in the home institution's program;
    • What the rotator will be doing; and
    • The home institution's agreement to cover the resident's salary and malpractice insurance during the rotation.
